In 2018 and 2019, I was selected to publish a personal essay, “Family Heirloom,” and a poem “Born on the 2,” in their annual Luna Magazine. I also give a lecture each year to the writing group about writing style and structure. The first lesson was on James Baldwin’s use of language and how he politicized his various identities. The next focused on how the Harlemite developed New York City into a reoccurring character in his work.
